PRESSURE ON IVORY

PRESSURE ON IVORY

With Group B left with only three teams after Togo's absence, the Ivory Coast must win in tonight's only African Nation's game against Ghana, after opening up with a less than impressive draw against Burkina Faso.

"We're in a very difficult position but still have all the cards in our hands, I know we can go through," said Elephants coach Vahid Halilhodzic, who could find his position under threat if his side fall at the first hurdle.

Opponents Ghana have welcomed Michael Essien back into training after arriving late for the tournament after receiving treatment on a hamstring injury in the UK.

But they are without several key players including midfielders Stephen Appiah and Anthony Annan.  Ghana's Dede Ayew appreciates the task facing his side.

"Ivory Coast are a great team, we know they have great players," he said.

"They are the favourites for this tournament, no doubt we have to give them that respect. But we all know that on the pitch there are no favourites and everyone fights and wants to succeed for our nations.

"This Nations Cup is very important for preparing for the World Cup."

The Ivory Coast enter the match as favourites at Evens (Various) whilst Ghana can be found at 3's (Paddy Power, Coral).  But in a tournament that has already seen some surprise results and with both sides knowing a loss would send them out, it could be a tentative affair.  Michael Essien can be backed at 18/1 (Bet 365) to score first which may be worth a punt with the Chelsea midfielder in good goalscoring form this season.
